This morning a little after nine I blew the engine in my vehicle. I was 153 miles north of McAllen and about 12 miles south of George West Texas. If this is not the middle of nowhere, you can see it from there. I just made it back to McAllen, 14 hours later.
But it was such an uplifting day and this is why...
An elderly couple stopped and gave some bottles of water. Another couple saw me on their way to church and breakfast. When they saw me on their way home they drove into George West and came back with a hot sandwich and fries, a coke, a gallon of water, and an umbrella. Two guys working on a ranch towed me to a truck stop in town. There I met Jim- he sells firewood there- and he sat and talked with me for four hours until my friend got there. Then he used his ATV to push my car onto the car trailer.
And, of course, my friend who rounded up a car trailer and a truck, then drove 300 miles to come get me
I think I finally understand feeling grateful and blessed, even in adverse conditions. All day I was in good spirits, even happy.
Tomorrow, when I find out what a replacement engine is going to cost me, I'll probably have a stroke and a heart attack, but that is a story for another day.
