My favourite books on the subject are Persian Fire and Rubicon both by Tom Holland. He writes like a narrative and its gripping stuff.

I also loved Heroditus 'Histories' and Thucydides 'History of the Peloponnesian War' was a lot more interesting than its reputation.

ha I don't know anything about that but it sounds like the kind of extreme conspiracy type theory that I'd definitely subscribe to
I only know a fairly small amount about it so far, but it's intriguing, plausible, and supported by at least some facts. I'm buying a book that is somewhat related to the subject tomorrow, I'll let you know the title then b/c I can't remember right now.
