Penalosa would rather face the big punchers cuz it's easier to see their punches coming. At his age young fighters with great hand speed would dominate him. I knew he would find a way to avoid facing Mares. Hearing him turn down good money to face him is no surprise. He won't face Lopez easier.

I think Peñalosa is just returning the favor to Team Nacho Beristain... Gerry was calling out Rafael Marquez since November 2004 but Team Nacho didn't entertained him... Now one of Nacho's boys (Mares) trying to get a fight against Gerry but maybe he remembered how Team Nacho responded to his challenge to Rafa before...

Anyway, props to Peñalosa for seeking bigger challenges...

I don't think a veteran like Penalosa would turn down big money on the Dec 6th card just to get back at somebody. He's pretty much just hurting himself. I think Mares youth and like they said hand speed were most likely the reasons why

Super bantamweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez is a bigger challenge than bantamweight prospect Abner Mares...

No way Peñalosa is avoiding Mares because of Mares' great handspeed ... Peñalosa not getting Mares will not hurt him if he gets the JuanMa Lopez fight on Dec. 6...
