Yes that was Team PAC's equalizer for the massive size, height and reach advantage of Hoya... Take note, it's equalizer... People still see the fight heavily favoring Hoya (2 to 1 favorite) and they did not predicted that Hoya will be THAT weight drained... People expected Hoya to be weight drained but not THAT weight drained...
Actually, DLH tore his body up so much to get down that he couldn't even get his weight back properly as on fight night he weighed 145, less than Pac. Roach pointed out that DLH have IV marks and that is a desparation attempt to hydrate someone. Before the ring entrance no one knew but DLH knew he was doomed.
He weighed a pound more than Pac in the ring actually. And I think he still probably had more muscle, he just didn't get fluids back into his system quick or effective enough. People make excuses but a great fighter like De La Hoya will put on a good show against anyone but the very best even under circumstances of duress, all great fighters do.
