no it shouldn't a KD is a KD, and in the rules of professional boxing if you score a knockdown, and don't get knocked down in return, you win the round by a score of 10-8, it's clearly stated in the rules of scoring, and to say Clottey won 8 rnds is upsurd, IMO Cotto won by ONE round and an extra point in the KD
dude no it isn't, you pulled that shit out of the air...so I'll refer you to this

Awarding Points
For each round, judges determine the score using the ten-point must system. This means that (usually) the winner of the round gets ten points, and the loser gets nine points. There are exceptions to this rule. For example, when a fighter is knocked down, that fighter loses a point. So if the fighter that was knocked down loses the round the score would be 10 to 8 for that round. If the fighter that was knocked down wins the round (which is rare) the score would be 9 to 9. If a fighter is knocked down twice, the score would normally be 10 to 7 for the round. If three knockdowns occur you should have a 10 to 6 round, etc. Also, it is possible for a judge to score a round as a tie, which is exceedingly rare. In this case the score for the round would be 10-10.

I believe that on a "10 point must" system, you cannot score a 9-9 round. Not sure if that rule was in effect during this fight, but if that was the case then 10-8 for Cotto is the only way to score the round.

I am not a Cotto fan, but I had Cotto winning by a point, and the knock down was the reason for it. I did feel that Clottey landed the bigger shots, though. Especially considering that the knock down was from a Cotto jab. So if you used the Max Kellerman approach to scoring a round ("Who would you rather be at the end of the round?"), then i can see how anyone could have Clottey winning. At the end of the fight, i said that the fight could go either way, but i see Cotto as the winner, and felt that it was deserved.. no robbery in my eyes.
