The crux of the fight, I thought, was that Shane just couldnt belive the speed and accuracy of Floyd's counterpunching. When you are fighting a guy that punishes you every time you make a tiny mistake, you get nervous pulling the trigger. Shane resorted to over-feinting to try and get a reaction from Floyd, but his reflexes were uncanny and Shane ended up stiff and awkward (who would have ever thought that?) He ran out of gas because of that and was in survival mode from the 8th onward.
This. Shane wasn't old and I picked him to win before the fight (although my initial instinct was a close PBF decision), but he was not shot. He was just confused and beaten by the better man on the night.

Mayweather didn't pretend that he wasn't hurt, he said he was, but what he showed in that round was the great heart he displayed in plenty of other fights (albeit at lower weights where no doubt his haters never saw him fight), to come back and actually win the end of the round having taken the kind of shots that levelled Vargas, Mayorga and Margarito and had Cotto playing run-away at the end of their fight. He had really sat down on both of them, and not only did Floyd stay standing he came back to batter him, and were it not for the face Mosley has probably the best chin and one of the best hearts in the sport, he would almost certainly have gone.
