I have to quote this! From Lord Moran, British high commisioner to Canada in the 1980's. Upon leaving his post in 1984, he wrote this to the then British foreign minister, about his experiences of working in Canada:
'The calibre of Canadian politicians is low. The level of debate in their House of Commons is correspondingly low; the majority of Canadian ministers are unimpressive, and a few we have found frankly bizarre... Canadians are...very sensitive, especially to express or implied British sneers about Canada as 'boring'. One does not encounter here the ferocious competition of talent that takes place in the United Kingdom... Anyone who is even moderately good at what they do...tends to become a national figure....and anyone who stands out at all from the crowd tends to be praised to the skies and given the Order of Canada at once.'
