I hate the welfare state with a passion, but can you blame the guy. If someone offered to give me as much money as I would earn from working, but I didn't have to work would I take it? Would you?

Chances are yes.

Now £800 wouldn't even cover my mortgage let alone anything else, so it's not a life for me. But if as a state we insist on giving these people money, then we can't blame them for taking it.

It's the system that is broken, people just take advantage of it.

What is the source of the anger in this story?

That he killed a hamster?
That he is on benefits?
Or that he spends £70 a week on weed?

I find the link a bit absurd to be honest. Man on benefits kills a hamster, he must lose his benefits.

As for the £70 a week on weed. The government give you what you need to live on. If he gets 800 a month and manages to budget well enough to spend £70 quid on weed then fair play to him.

I'm a bit meh on the whole story. A hamster is just a rat without a tail at the end of the day.
