Having said that, maybe some of them will eventually cross over to boxing.
Nothing like a little elitist snobbery to prove a point. Come on booze most boxing fans couldn't be legitimate boxers much like most fans couldn't be a legitimate professional at just about any sport they enjoy watching.

No, most boxing fans could not be legitimate boxers. However, many train for these MMA sports believing they have a real shot at something. I think this is mainly due to relative new birth of sport.

I completely stand by my statement that it appeals to lower socioeconomic classes (and which doesn't necessarily mean it is bad in and of itself).

I can't help it, just complete trash. Wearing all that affliction gear makes nascar look like blue blood fencing.

Like finito, I am irrational in my hatred for MMA. I never denied it takes skill (but so does gay porn and yes, they are related).

I think the trash talking ( just as in boxing and wrestling) is trashy. I think it is juvenile and unnecessary. I believe cauliflower ears are unsightly and trashy as well. it is a mark of being shit.

Believe me, I had a friend who made me sit down and watch a whole tape of this Nick Diaz bloke grappling and fighting. Shit faced, watching the highlights, I was completely unimpressed. I have since quit talking to this friend.

and yes, this is just one person ranting about the shittiness of a sport. But this also someone who has time on his hands, as in posting 7000 posts on a boxing website, as in watching hours of real time horse racing, as in playing shuffleboard all the time. Nothing can describe the dull monotony of MMA short of death by impalement of a very small skewer.

Well at least you admit its completely irrational. I think suggesting that the sport appeals to a lower socio-economic class is a pretty snobbish view point particularly when boxing has long been a sport that drew its fanbase and participants from some of the poorest neighborhoods. It is pretty much akin to an avid bowling fan claming boxing was an uncultured sport for the masses. I think what is more true is that boxing has lost a large portion of the male 18-34 year old market to MMA. 20+ years ago this part of the market (you know the affliction t-shirt wearing group) would be watching boxing. It is necessary to point out that boxing as we know it is 200+ yrs old and MMA as we know it 20+ years old. Comparing the two is apple and oranges.

Anderson Silva was awesome again last night.

This debate is so stupid. Ask any man whose skills they would rather have for their own self defense, Floyd Mayweather's or Anderson Silva's and only an idiot would say Floyd's.

Floyd has tremendous ability, most of it useless outside of a boxing setting. Anderson is equipped in the art of real fighting and is trained to kill in so many different ways. The guy is a beast.

I was in shock over how easily he handled Okami! He just turned it up and blasted him out so easily in round 2, like he was playing in round 1. I thought for sure he'd follow Chael's plan more. Great night of fights

Relly dissapointed with Okami he didn't use his wrestling like he should have. It seemed like he gave up at the end of the fight he didn't seem really hurt. I've never really been a fan of Anderson but I'm starting to appreciate his skill on the feet more.

Great night of fights. Thought Pearson did enough for the win. Anyone see the Dan Miller fight? That was a first ha!

I knew Okami didn't have the chops to last long. He isn't the beast that Chael is and doesn't have the freestyle wrestling either. Once it was clear he was looking to counter Anderson I knew it was over. While Shogun looked like Pride GP form I was pretty dissapointed in Forrest. Pregnant wife or not the guy didn't look focused. While I don't think Forrest at his best can beat Shogun at his best I expected a better performance. Inconsistency seems to be Griffin's biggest problem. Big Nog was looking like the older fighter at first but he definitely reached back for some of his prime years. Maybe a Big Nog vs Mir II will happen. Palhares looked pretty nasty as well but he needs to work on the gas tank. Had that been a 5 rounder Miller might have been able to out last him.

As much as I love boxing... this is a stupid, stupid post.

You might as well get an MMA highlight video showing one of the sport's greatest fights and compare it to a video clip of Joe Calzaghe humping Bernard Hopkins.

You'd still be comparing the gayest moments of one sport to the best of another.
