I doubt it will take a 47 year old Shamrock more than 10 seconds to tap him out though.
no it was not settled. I never seen an mma guy have the balls to come over on this side of the fence. Silva comes over to boxing, he gets his ass kicked. Lesnar goes against Klitchko, believe me that he leaves the ring in a gurney. Sergio Martinez will murder St. Pierre, in the ring.

    Let's be fair about this.

I do enjoy watching some MMA fights and am not meaning to criticize the sport, but the level of "striking" is still fairly shit even among the best guys out there.
I would have to agree. I enjoy an MMA fight every once in awhile. I much rather watch a pure BJJ match though.

but when it comes to punching, damn do those MMA guys look like amateurs. Even St. Pierre.

Silva has boxed before but was pretty mediocre, gotten knocked out in one of them I believe. I agree with you, Randy was one of the UFCs best fighters and he fought one of boxings previously p4p champ...key word is previously. Lets see one of MMAs fighters in a boxing ring against one of the best boxers in the world and see how that goes

I think what is settled is that a professional in one sport is not going to beat the top caliber or maybe even mid-tier fighters in another sport very often no matter how similar the sports are. While I wouldn't be suprised if a professional boxer was able to knockout a MMA fighter that was predominantly a striker I think in any of these matchups the MMA fighter would be foolish to try to "box" (Mercer vs Sylvia). Even in the standup department a MMA fighter that utilizes good kicks (particularly leg kicks) is going to pose a real problem for a boxer (Mercer in K1) but again why standup at all (Toney vs Couture). Get the takedown and barring a boxer that has had extensive ground fighting training, the fight is over. I can think of some MMA fighters that had they spent a career in boxing might be a top 10 talent but I can't really think of any MMA fighter that would be competitive in a boxing match. Apple and oranges.

No..it was settled boxers can't hang with elite MMA fighters in an MMA fight. I never said anything about an MMA fighter in a high level boxing match because its a given with my theory. Read up first.

At the end of the day, a pure boxer will struggle in an MMA contest against a pure MMA fighter and pure MMA fighter will struggle in a boxing contest against a pure boxer.

A swimmer wont beat a sprinter in a 100m run just coz he kinda uses his legs to swim (just like a MMA fighter kinda uses his fists to fight) but a swimmer will most likely beat a runner in a swimming race.
