Re: Thomas Fires Back At New Talk From Mayorga
I think what is settled is that a professional in one sport is not going to beat the top caliber or maybe even mid-tier fighters in another sport very often no matter how similar the sports are. While I wouldn't be suprised if a professional boxer was able to knockout a MMA fighter that was predominantly a striker I think in any of these matchups the MMA fighter would be foolish to try to "box" (Mercer vs Sylvia). Even in the standup department a MMA fighter that utilizes good kicks (particularly leg kicks) is going to pose a real problem for a boxer (Mercer in K1) but again why standup at all (Toney vs Couture). Get the takedown and barring a boxer that has had extensive ground fighting training, the fight is over. I can think of some MMA fighters that had they spent a career in boxing might be a top 10 talent but I can't really think of any MMA fighter that would be competitive in a boxing match. Apple and oranges.
