Ortiz just needs to believe that if he hits Mayweather he will hurt him. I think on 24/7 they said that everyone who has gotten in the ring with him has been knocked down - that's got to do a lot for the kid's self-belief. As long as that belief sticks with him for 11.5 rounds, he'll still believe he has a chance to win.
