Let's put my cards on the table: I don't like Floyd.
Ok, that said this is a new low. I have no problem with the point deduction, it was a bad headbutt worthy of a point deduction.
But Cortez wasn't looking at the restart and either didn't, or wasn't very clear, in telling the boxers to box on.
Oh, and Floyd proved himself to be a classless prick in the post-fight interview. Larry made me chuckle though.

But Cortez didnt need to be looking since nothing illegal happened. Cant blame Cortez coz Ortiz wanted to be overly friendly in a world title match. I think it was great that he apologised the first time...but the second time was overkill. If you watch in slow mo, mayweather touches his gloves and then puts his hands up, this should of been a sign for Ortiz to follow suit....he didnt, then the left hook was thrown followed by the right.
People hate MAyweather and thus do not judge him fairly he did no wrong Ortiz was in fact the scumbag here with repeated headbutts and then a leaping headbutt.
Well hell of course it's Cortes's fault again. He should have stopped Ortiz from kissing and hugging Floyd a second time, after Cortes had said to fight on. He should have held up a banner that said "CONTINUE FIGHTING" instead of just saying it verbally. He should have leaped in the middle of Floyd's one-two and taken the punishment instead of the clueless Ortiz. The headbutt by Ortiz was Cortes's fault also. He should have seen the headbutts coming, and pushed Ortiz away or something. Hell.... in the dressing room, before the fight, Cortes should have said to Ortiz: "Hey listen... no blatant headbutts in there, or I'll have to deduct points away from you and maybe disqualify you. But if you DO headbutt... don't go kissing and hugging after I've told you to continue. You're liable to get clocked." That damn Cortes. He should be fired (like Merchant).
This is simply untrue. A ref constantly glances over to several things during fights. He has to see quickly if a towel has been thrown in, if the ring doctor or any cornerman may be calling for something (not like a pint of beer, OK), if the timekeeper has resumed the time or not, sometimes the ref has to scan the canvass for excess water to be wiped up, sometimes the ref having seen a mouthpece fall has to quickly scan the floor for the mouthpiece in order to retrieve it, this too will be taking his eyes off the fighters, etc. How can a ref be expected 100% of the time to watch both fighters? Its just unrealistic. Finally, if a parachute is coming in from 70 degrees, the ref better have his eyes on that, too, and screw the fighters!didn't need to be looking? Really? I'm fairly sure that a referee should be looking 100% of the time.![]()
Cortez loves Floyd and is bias and helps him, he also acts like he is the step dad to Mayweather, people also hate Floyd = people hate Cortez.
