I really see it as almost entirely Ortiz's fault. He basically had lost the plot by the time he threw that headbutt, I feel it was just a matter of time before he found his own way out given those antics. He headbutts Floyd blatantly, like cartoon style, then goes way out of his way trying to hug and make up, rather than just touch gloves once as is the norm(and which they did, before Ortiz goes in for another hug). I feel it was a punk move by Mayweather, but completely legal and somewhat understandable given the nature of the butt. It sucks that we didn't get to see a good fight, but I really doubt Ortiz would have given us much more entertainment regardless. If this had been two lessser name fighters on an undercard I imagine people would just say "oh yeah that was badass".

I've made it pretty well known here that I don't like Floyd Mayweather. Don't like his attitude in and out of the ring... personally thinks he's done his share of ducking, while taking care of his precious "0"... and has been in some downright BORING fights.

But here's where I distance myself from being just a Floyd-hater. Last night was nobody's fault but Victor "WTF Were You Thinking" Ortiz himself.

First, he launches himself like a missile at Floyd's chin. Probably the most obvious headbutt I've ever seen. THEN... not content with kissing and hugging Floyd the first time... he goes to do it a SECOND time. AFTER Joe Cortes had given the "go-ahead" to continue fighting. Floyd, obviously still pissed about the headbutt, connects with a good left hook.... but not quite a knockout punch. So Victor "Rocket Scientist" Ortiz, with HIS HANDS STILL DOWN, looks over at Cortes as if to whine: "Floyd hit me." So Mayweather does the only thing he CAN do. He hits him with a right and knocks him out.

    Conclusions:
    1. Victor came off like the village idiot. Hey kid.... save the "I love you man" shit for Bud Light commercials. You're in a boxing match, not "Blind Date".

    2. Why all the hate for Cortes (as usual)? He promptly took a well-deserved point off Ortiz... then motioned them to continue fighting. How was HE to know Ortiz still wanted some "kissie-poo" from Floyd? Cortes was just as taken by surprise as the rest of us.

    3. Did Floyd deprive us fans from a good fight? Sure. But it was hardly his fault. He's a fighter and he's being paid to try to win. He saw an opening... he took it. It wasn't the most sportsman-like thing to do, but remember... he had just gotten the mother of all headbutts. No amount of smooching from Ortiz was going to fix his broken lip.

And while I'm at it.... what about the Merchant incident? What a riot !! That was almost as good as the fight itself. Again... I'm not applauding what Mayweather did. But it's painfully obvious the guy is carrying a giant chip on his shoulder when it comes to the press and their criticism of him. So when Merchant put him in a corner, Floyd lashed out. Was it right? Probably not. But it's probably not that difficult to go off at old Larry. He's (Larry) probably saying to himself, "Hell... I don't need this shit. I could be sitting in a bar somewhere downing scotch-and-sodas."

Finally, it's too bad the fight ended like this. But I put the blame squarely on Ortiz's very childish and immature shoulders.

I like Floyd and I love the way he fights, I like Ortiz and love the way he fights too. I just dont see why ethier fighter did what they did really. It ruined what was a good fight totally. Honestly I think Floyd is more to blame. Each fighter is responsible for their own actions. Its Floyds own fault he decided to end the fight like that.

And Ortiz hits Floyd with a headbutt that cuts his lip so Floyd hits him twice and knocks him out and thats fair? Come on people are you for real? The left hook was twice as bad as the headbutt in itself.

The headbutt is a blatant and intentional foul. The left hook was delivered after Cortes had instructed both fighters to continue. End of.

Take the two seperate incidents, the headbutt and the two punches. Ortiz got a decent little head butt in, cut Floyds lip, nothin serious the fight goes on. On the other hand Floyd got TWO free POWER SHOTS in right on the chin off ortiz when Ortiz or the ref wasnt even ready. Someone says thats fair? Im sure anyone would rather be in Flyds shoes. I would take a headbutt all day rather than even the first left hook. And at that point in the fight it could have went ethier way, nethier fighter even landed a real good clean shot. Defense by both fighters was tight.

"Decent little head butt"? Ortiz launched himself into Floyd's chin, for crying out loud. It was decent enough to cut Floyd's lip. As for Ortiz or the ref not being ready... how was the ref not ready? He had instructed the fighters to fight. What was he supposed to do? Draw Ortiz a picture? And Ortiz not being ready was his own damn fault. He had already hugged and kissed Floyd once before. Why do it again? And when he got his with the left hook... why the hell didn't he react instead of looking dumbfounded at the ref? Was he expecting Floyd to be given a timeout? And what was Ortiz's reaction after the fight all about? He was all smiles and saying it was fun. WTF?

I can blame Ortiz. Ortiz is a dumb for wanting to love from a punk ass like Floyd in the first place. When I look at Ortiz, now I just shake my head, what the hell were you thinking.

Floyd is a chump, cheap shot win. Ref never said "fight". He may have said "lets go" to Ortiz after walking him to the corner but never re-started the fight.

Wrong wrong wrong and wrong again. Floyd was in the neutral corner after the Butt, Ortiz got walked around the ring by Cortez getting his deduction then brought to the neutral corner told not to do it again. Cortez walks to the center of the ring and clear as a bell says LETS GO! and clasps his hands together motioning both fighters to come forward and fight. Cortez gave an audible and visual signal to both fighters to restart. If you look at the replays of the supposed hug Floyd invited, you'll notice Floyd walking while raising his hands to his fighting posture and after Ortiz hugs him Floyd was in full fight stance and clocked Ortiz as he stepped back.. Floyd had every right too

Floyd is just a better fighter than most both legal and dirty. Ortiz spent most the night running (which when floyd does people cry) and headbutting not just the last one but throughout the fight. Pretty funny especially since it was vic's team whining before hand about elbows and what not. Not sure how long mayweather was supposed to wait before the fight started. Should he have put vic's hands up for him ? Hugged him just one more time, tounged ortiz down to make sure he was really sorry ? It's pretty funny how bad people want this guy to loose. It's funny what's cheating and what isn't in this sport. Ortiz throws one of the most obvious butts i've seen in boxing and there are complaints about what floyd did legally ? Margo loads his gloves and gets a title shot out of it, saul a on the same telecast sits and does nothing for pretty much his whole fight then they stop it when he hits gomez twice. Lot of shady shit going on while the one guy that hasn't got caught cheating catches shit. Amazing.
