What I thought I saw was Bernard leaning over Chad in a somewhat dirty fashion to put his weight on Chad and Chad then nudging him off. Then to buy more time Bernard wouldn't get up (which would be par for the course for Bernard fights). My question is: since it was only the 2nd round, and they could stop it before the 4th on the body slam, why didn't Bernard just get up and fight on and see how his shoulder felt after a round or two? Why did he say he wouldn't continue? I think what he actually said was something like "with one arm" as if to say no I can't.
the ref asked him, Can you continue, the first thing out his mouth was yes

and you can't have it both ways, how would Hopkins "putting his weight on Dawson" affect him at all if as you said Dawson seemed like the bigger fighter, Chad was simply frustrated with Hopkins defense and awkward style and was looking to vent so he slammed him then went on to make a bigger ass of himself parading around the ring like if he actually won the championship, to really break it down, the slam and Dawson's wannabe gangster act at the end of the fight is the only time that his ass has acted "Bad", the dude has a giant shit stain running across his record and his rep
I think you can have it both ways. They both weighed in at 175+ for the fight and a 175 pound man leaning on you will have an effect over the course of the fight. I agree Dawson was intent on imposing his will on Hopkins and showing Hopkins that he wouldn't allow him to fight dirty.

Don't forget Hopkins didn't want the Dawson fight for a few years. There is no doubt about that. Many people at the time considered it a duck job. Dawson was calling out Hopkins and Hopkins wasn't answering.

If the referree didn't allow him to continue the fight when he wanted to, then that is the ref's bad, not Dawson's.
look at Hopkins record and since when has he had the habit of ducking anyone?

he didn't fight Dawson after he got schooled by Pascal because he chose to go after the guy who did the schooling, which IMO is a bigger risk than fighting the guy who had just lost, and i dunno what fight you were watching cause NEITHER GUY IMPOSED ANYTHING IN A ROUND AND A HALF

and yes, Dawson does deserve blame and to be scrutinized because ultimately it was his actions that cut the night short, and he's getting bashed more so for his actions and behavior after the fight more than anything, he's not the first fighter to have someone lean on them after missing a shot, Floyd does it all the time, so does Wlad, so does Dawson who has held onto plenty of opponents after throwing two or three shots, hell he even did it against Diaconu, it's completely ridiculous that Hopkins is the one being blamed specifically for this fight when he's the one who was screwed, him being a dirty fighter in past fights has nothing to do with the result of this, when did Hopkins ever get a TKO win from slamming an opponent? when did Hopkins get a TKO win from a foul period? if it was that Dawson fought like Hopkins and maybe held and hit his was to a UD then there wouldn't be an uproar, but the fact is that the guy "won" the Light Heavyweight Title in Boxing while practicing MMA
