It was his age agreed but cutting down that much, so quickly wouldn't help either. I've never known anyone bulk up to Heavyweight, then cut all the way down to Light Heavyweight again in boxing anyway.

1# Roy knew he didnt have the technical ability to beat hops, he knew hops was a different animal than when he last fought him and he wasnt a low tier light heavyweight who no one ever heard of like all of Roys opponents, he was the undisputed Middleweight champ who would have moved up and taken Roy to a place he never been to.
2# Hopkins doesnt care about the money he cares about his pride and he would have avenged that loss in 2002 instead of waiting for roy to get desperate and wait all those years.
    1# Hahaha.

2# Why didint he take the 60/40 then ?

I think a more even fight could of been Forrest 2004 each at a catch around light middle.

Roy Jones jr does not lose to Hopkins pre Ruiz in 2002. We all know Jones jr has not aged well in boxing, but to say Hopkins would beat him in 2002 is just plain crazy. Hopkins has been incredible to continue on in boxing well into his mid 40's, people have forgotten how good Roy Jones jr was up until the Ruiz fight. Roy has been a shadow of his former self ever since. It might be time for Hopkins to finally give it away too.

Jones Jr V Hopkins 2002 is a wide UD for Jones jr.

i think jones just has hopkins number. He is the only guy who doesnt give hopkins the mental advantage, he actually aggravates the old man. A good version of Bernard struggled against the worst possible version of roy jones, i say jones wins a decision, its just the way it is.

I think the result would have been the same as it was in 1993.

Hopkins had improved, but Jones was still on top of his game in 2002.

Jones would outpoint Bhop at prety much any time in years. Calzaghe's speed was a key weapon when he beat Hopkins, and Roy Jones is three times as fast as Joe C, plus he hits much harder and more accurately, so you have to say he'd take Bhop 3 times out of 4 at least.

If Roy had fought Hopkins in 2002, we would have cleaner smelling rings where Hopkins would never have plied his trade of being a dirty fighter. He is however a clever opportunist

Bit of a loaded one on weight yeh, considering Jones was steady at 175 for 6 yrs and less than a yr away from bulking to cruiser....Hopkins had another 5 full yrs before he would make 175.

60-40 was never reality. With prior win Jones def should have benefited but BOTH were p4p (what ever the hell that means). Likewise with the weight was it expected Hopkins would take the low end of purse, and expected to come up to lt hvy? One of those had to bend and it was Jones who stated after the Kelly fight that he'd 'rather' fight Clinton woods and Hopkins would have to win a super middle belt The egos of these two needed a standing room only arena but there was alot of between the lines if-maybe-could have that fight ever been close to happening, I never thought it was.

He was right on Tito though, Jones was calling out Tito like a mad dog then...."a welterweight" as stated prior. Hopkins got him and long due respect. I think BOTH were wanting some of that Trinidad shine and pop. He was far more credible in Hopkins match at middle than he certainly was 6 yrs later in a fight of the fastly faded vs Roy.

Roy Jones would win just about then.
