I think Martinez is expecting guys Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather who walking around 20-30 pounds lighter than him to fight him. When he could easily establish his legacy against guys a little bigger than him at 168. He isn't that much smaller than them, and he would probably dealing with guys closer to his size than Floyd or Manny do at welterweight.

I honeslty still would pick either one of them to beat him more often than not. The mistakes he makes are too many and too big against guys this good. He would obviously have a better chance against the less defensive savy Pacquiao, but he makes so many errors, and the way he was in trouble in his last fight against a guy who just didn't open up really showed me how overrated he is. Roach isn't talking out of his ass when he is saying Martinez is simply a great athlete, but not a great fighter.

"The way he was in trouble" sergio didn't look spectacular but at no point in the fight was he in anything that can be described as in trouble.

He was in trouble tactically, not physically. There were times where he was lined so badly he couldn't get off or get out of the way of Baker's punches.

don't see how he was in trouble tactically when he was dominating his opponent, Barker made him work more and put up a less than stellar showing but Martinez was winning the fight by a landslide, at the very most Barker won like 2 rounds and Martinez still landed the stronger cleaner punches

I don't think Sergio is that nice either he's good don't get me wrong but should prove it to people in heavier weight class not people in 2-3 weight classes below him. unless he's going down to 154, it would be stupid for them to go any higher.

Sergio is a small middleweight. Remember that he started his career at 147 and fought most of his career at 154. Now he is a middleweight. No doubt about it. Ask yourself though could Chavez Jr. or Dmitry Pirog safetly get down to 150 for a fight? No but Sergio can. Chavez Jr. walks into the ring weighing more than 180 pounds for a middleweight fight. Sergio walks into the ring at 160. Consider also that Victor Ortiz foguht Floyd in his last fight and Ortiz weighed in the night of the fight above 160, which is exactly the same weight Sergio weighs in his fights. When was the last time he got in the ring with someone he was bigger than? Say what you want about his recent opponents (I know Bilbo thinks they're rubbish) but every single one of them was bigger than Sergio.

In addition, Macklin who in all likelihood will face Sergio in March believes he has an advantage because he's bigger than Sergio and Sergio is not a "true" middleweight. My point is that he would be at a big size disadvantage against Lucian Bute or Andre Ward who are proper super middleweights because he's not even a proper middleweight. I don't see a problem with Sergio not moving up in weight.

If you saw Sergio and Floyd stand side by side, there wouldn't be a big size difference. Many people say they would pick Floyd to beat Sergio. So, why not fight him? Instead, Floyd fights Ortiz in his last fight! Victor Ortiz who was drowned by Marcos Maidana. Other than Manny Pacquiao, who else do you want to see Floyd fight? Andre Berto or Victor Ortiz? Please.

Let's all be honest with ourselves, Floyd Mayweather won't be taking a real risky fight anytime soon. He doesn't have to. He's in the enviable position of being able to earn upwards of $20 million for fighting anyone. He could sell us a Robert Guerrero, Saul Alvarez or a fight with the winner of Berto/Ortz and we would all buy it even though the outcome is certain. Manny Pacqiauao will retire after Floyd beats him. Chavez Jr. and Cotto aren't fighting Sergio because it doesn't make economic sense for them. Thus, Sergio needs to move on from thinking that he will be fighting anyone from Top Rank or anyone named Floyd Mayweather. Get over it. I'm sick of hearing about it because it ain't happening.

Sergio should clean out the middleweight division. He can make $1M pay days doing that. It's not the $2-3 million or $5 million that Cotto and Margarito make per fight, but it's still big time. He should face Macklin in March and Sturm in July. Then face the Pirog/Geale winner. Sometime in the beginning of 2013, once Sergio has grown into a real proper middleweight, assuming Froch and Bute are still big names at 168. By then maybe he can make $3 million for a fight. Take a risk and step up to super middleweight and retire with a big pay day and probably a loss.

He should also try fighting on the Maidana/Matthysse/Narvaez cards. It's late in his career, but he could try cultivating a little bit of a Argentinian fan base.
