Overall fighter of the year has to be Ward though. Agreed AA was a whatever fight, but winning the tourney while hardly dropping any rounds is pretty huge. And while I thought Froch was pretty overrated going into that fight, he's still probably the best fighter to have been beaten clearly this year. Well, scratch that -- Segura probably is.
If Hopkins had beaten Dawson, I would definitely give it to him (but I think Dawson would have won if the fight had been completed anyway).
And Viloria
stopped Segura. Frankly, the more I think about it, the more it has to be Viloria if we are going on pure "in the ring" accomplishments.
That may be right, but these things are subjective and typically include a "visibility" factor that obviously weighs more heavily in favor of Ward than Viloria. For better or worse (entirely for the worse, IMO), Viloria-Segura was not a "big fight" in the sport; the only way most could even watch it was through an internet stream. By contrast, the Super 6 championship was a highly-anticipated major event.
Also, FWIW, Segura had moved up to a new weight division for the fight (though only 3 lbs., granted).
