Being that master started this and the recent posts about Tyson, id bet Tyson influenced this

Mike did achive a hell of a lot in a pretty short time frame and it hurts some to think what more he could have achieved had he not been so easly mislead?

Unfortunately, it is those people who have that fundamental flaw of living to the excess and not focusing that we blame their careers on going wrong on everyone else but the fighter.

We are each in charge of our own destiny.

Shame? ... Huge Prince Naseem fan, after his lost to Barrera he fought once and disappeared. He always talked about making a come back but I think after losing his undefeated record he felt either shameful or like his confidence was shot.. I truly don't know but I still felt he was a great fighter who was at his prime and lost to atg and gave up.

Also.. wasn't one of my favorite fighters but I was a fan, Edwin Valero could of been great imo without his drug issues.

To a degree, but we are all shaped by how we grew up and fighters are not always the most clued in or aware. Fighters do have choices, but someone who has never had anything in terms of financial resources or loving relationships has it rougher. You are unlikely to see Prince Charles ever throw things away in the manner of Tyson.

I agree with that final sentence to an extent in that we have the ability to determine our own futures, but in a lot of cases I don't think it so cut and dry.
