I looked at his record closely several times on boxrec and I honestly believe the man should be in the hall of fame. For sheer durability alone ! Absolutely remarkable.
Also if you look at his record you'll notice he lost to a 16-0 or 16-2 youngster in his penultimate fight, then came back and TKO'd the kid in the rematch and retired.
I've watched both his fights with Roberto Duran and while not epic, they certainly were entertaining and deserving of some respect for both guys.
One more thing about wiping blood on the shirt if you'll recall Jorge Barrios did it against Freitas, so maybe its an Argentina thing![]()
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
You get a chance check out his go with Jirov. He wasn't the typical face first brawler there and though Toney didn't need it, Castro and his red hair really showed a little of what some boxing and ring savy held for Jirov when Toney and Jirov met next fight out. Odd one.
