Imagine if Pacquiao or Floyd faced Alvarado in their next fight? Even Pacquiao's back-up options are better than Alvarado.
Marquez has had two big fights against Floyd and Manny lately and has otherwise fought mediocre opposition, he is nowhere Manny or Floyd in terms of opponents, and until his shock result over Manny was pretty much out of the picture. His last fight was against some dude called Likar Ramos, then prior to that he had beaten Katsidis and rematched a shot Juan Diaz.
Alvarado is no worse than any of Marquez's opponents in the past 3 years, Floyd and Manny excluded. In many ways he is more relevant being an undefeated fighter and not a past his best, on the slide guy like Casamayor, Katsidis or Diaz, none of which are at all relevant to the sport any more.
I think Alvarado is a decent fight, equivilant to a fight with Mike Jones at welter, who I personally would much rather see Manny face than Cotto again.
