I would like to put in Piers Morgan. Quite how somebody with as little talent or journalistic integrity can set themselves up as a judge and expert baffles me. The man is an eejit. I don't know what America thinks of him but I only have to see his face and I want to smash the TV. His aloofness and faux looks of empathy when interviewing guests turn my stomach. Simon Cowell is equally nauseating and annoying. For his crimes against music alone I would gladly flush him down a wormhole. Add in his haircut which looks like an accident with a hedge trimmer and his nipple high trousers and it becomes quite clear that his affinity for style and taste was a brief one terminally curtailed in about 1983. That's enough people for now.

Mp3's. A seemingly innocent compression codec but really an excuse to cripple a whole industry and pander to a generation who have grown to expect something for nothing. I dont blame Karl Heinz Brandenberg or the Franhofer Institute, in fact tempting though it is I do not even blame the Moving Pictures Expert Group who designed the MPEG-2 Audio layer 3. I blame Apple for creating the i-pod and then I-tunes which has popularised the format to such an extent that it is everywhere. It devalues music. Not only is it a lossy and often poor fidelity compression technique it means that due to the discarding of binary data, it renders an analogue master or LP into a tiny insignificant digital file hundreds of which can now fit on a playing device or just as easily be streamed for free with a file sharing service. Consequently even great bands that may not have played live a lot can no longer make a living recording music however great that music is. It also means once again Apple become the taste makers. gggrrrr![]()
