I think he is just getting old, even so you have got to wonder now if Vitali has been an fading fighter for a while now, his competition has been so poor of late we have just not been able to tell.
A 38 year old Lennox Lewis against this Vitali or maybe one from two years ago, Lennox would have knocked him out no question.
40 years old.
missed 4 years because basically he kept injuring himself in training and decided to retire.
only 2 fights lost were when he tore a rotator cuff (Byrd) and when Lewis busted his eye up and it was stopped.
And he appeared to be fighting with a messed up left hand today.
How many 40 year old fighters that were injured alot, take 4 years off, come back, win every fight, and then wins against a much younger fighter with only one hand?
Is the HW division good? No, but Vitali just wins.
You can only fight your era.
God is a concept, By which we can measure, Our pain, I'll say it again, God is a concept, By which we can measure, Our pain, I don't believe in magic, I don't believe in I-ching, I don't believe in bible, I don't believe in tarot, I don't believe in Hitler, I don't believe in Jesus, I don't believe in Kennedy, I don't believe in Buddha, I don't believe in mantra, I don't believe in Gita, I don't believe in yoga, I don't believe in kings, I don't believe in Elvis, I don't believe in Zimmerman, I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me!!
It will always be anyones guess how good either Klitschko really is or would have been imo. There is just no way you can hold their resumes up to any past HW's who would be tagged great, and they have each have limitations which make it nearly impossible for me to be confident that they would have even been competitive with certain opponents.
As far as this fight proving anything about Vitali I just can't agree with that, he is an old man and would not have struggled with Chisora only a couple of years ago imo. He looked on the verge of broken today, surely people aren't suggesting that he hasn't lost a huge step?
No way is he overrated. He would handle the best of any era and the only heavyweights I see that would give him a problem would have been Lewis, Foreman and Ali. Hell I have never seen him knocked down or really ever hurt.
Wow really ? see these type of comments are the one's im on about. Handle any Heavyweight in history based on what exactly ? beating Samuel Peter ? don't make me laugh.
Even Heavyweight nearly men like Razor Ruddock, Tony Tucker, would of beat anyone on Vitali Klitschko's resume easily.
And there's also plenty of past Heavyweight's who would have a great chance of beating Vitali Klitschko.
Larry Holmes
Tim Witherspoon
Muhammad Ali
George Foreman
Mike Tyson
Joe Frazier
Riddick Bowe
ETC.
Holmes had a pretty soft era as well. Witherspoon really? Vital has manhandled just about everyone they have put in front of him. Tyson would make it interesting for the first few rounds and then lose it mentally later. Bowe if motivated and with Futch could make it interesting. Frazier would probably give him fits with the head movement and quick left hook but would get taken out eventually. He would destroy Ruddock and Tucker. We can go on and on but its all opinion and speculation. I standby what I said and feel he beats most of them.
Klitschko is NOT overrated, he is 40 years old. It's an absolute fantastic achievement that he's still even competing at the top of what is admittedly a weak HW division. I think he is very close to the end though. Vitali that caused Lennox serious problems would have had Chisora asleep in 2 rounds.
When your power has no affect on a man you can be made to look pretty average.

Seems like vitali has injured himself again SecondsOut Boxing News - Main News - Vitali Klitschko Injury Update .. might just be excuses though, which shoulder did he injure v Byrd? If it is a real injury then I have to think he will retire very soon he has had so many injuries before and getting injured at the age of 40 is very bad for a pro sportsman.. shame, he is one of my favourites I will be sad to see him go
The Klitschko brothers are better than I thought they were. They have both beaten everyone placed in front of them.
I think people like Dan Raphael and many others have gotten carried away with how "great" the Klitschkos are, but they are good heavyweights who have been made to look very good at times due to absolutely pathetic opposition.
Chisora had something that practically every other Klit opponent has lacked, HUNGER.
And Vitali is getting older, but aside from the lack of a jab, he pretty much boxed the same way he always does and Wlad does. Safety first, chipping away at the opponent, not taking any chances, and looking to methodically (boringly) win the fight.
"You knocked him down...now how bout you try knockin me down ?"
