Best sportsman in the world in my lifetime (and as long as darts is recognised as a sport then thats what he is)
He will never get the recognition because the sport is darts but has any other sportsman EVER achieved what he has and continued to raise the bar 20 years later ??
He is still consistent - more so than any one else in the field - but now very capable of having a bad night when things not going his way as he puts pressure on himself

team sport
and Redgrave was inconsistent. He'd win then do fuck all for three years then win again then have another barren three years. Fucking useless. Taylor does it year in year out

These are the players Taylor beat to win the 2002 PDC title - Paul Williams, Shane Burgess, John Part, Dave Askew and Peter Manley
Only John Part is still a professional and the only one to win anything (he's clearly one of the all-time greats).
Here are some of the 2002 BDO field that are currently in the PDC - Barney, Anderson, King, Mardle, Jones, Stompe, Van Der Voort, Suljovic, Eccles, Hankey.
Painter, Wade, Whitlock, Webster, Baxter, Beaton, Klassen, Van Gerwen are all highly ranked PDC players that have played in the BDO championships when Taylor has been crowned PDC "world" champion.
Taylor is the greatest of all time. But some of those "world" titles are seriously dodgy.

Taylor loses with huge averages though.
H, look at that amazing prem leauge game the other week, he was 5-0 DOWN averaging 110+
He NEVER loses because he has an 80 average or something shit. His WORST game is still good enough to win ANY tournament. However, those PDC fields, until a few years ago, are far weaker than the BDO ones. If not, where did all the PDC players go Taylor was beating. Colin Lloyd was "world" no.1 not too long ago.
