Maybe Devon Alexander is a better welterweight than he was a junior welterweight. If that is the case, let's not rule out that he could be a force in the welterweight division, whether you like his holding style of boxing or not. As he's just signed with Al Haymon, I'm certain he won't be put in the ring with Brooks level competition anytime soon, although I'd love to be proved wrong.

How is it ridiculous? The dude clinched every time Maidana got close enough to do any fighting. Clinching can be used as a technique, but it shouldn't be used because somebody has a blatant inability to fight.
