Let's be honest with ourselves. We, as American boxing fans, are dying for a "Great American Hope," in the spirit of the "Great White Hope" of the past. The only difference is that we've moved passed the racial aspect of it. How did a fight like Mitchell v. Witherspoon get on HBO? Mitchell is a fun fighter to watch, but he's not even in the top ten of the division. Adamek versus Chambers is two top ten heavyweights and they're not making HBO $ in their fight.
As much as Al Haymon pushes him, Mitchell isn't going to beat a Klitschko, unless they slip something aweful. I like Mitchell. He seems a class act too.
Frankly, Witherspoon isn't even known as a puncher. Even though he is 29, Mitchell should take some time to hone his skills. He seems pretty 1 dimensional. Am I wrong?
