Golden Boy must be confident that Williams is shot to make this fight. Gotta go with Canelo on this one, maybe a late stoppage.

I realize they will be careful with Alvarez for the meantime, but I don't think any version of Williams could have beaten him either. He doesn't have the power to hurt him, isn't technically near as sound and won't hold up to Canelos shots imo. At present I'm not sure whether this is even any kind of test for the kid, he should be able to punch holes through Williams.

It's a good fight, I like it. Canelo is not.ready for Floyd and this is a good next step for him. As for the PPV, I don't know why they are doing this. That fight will be lucky to draw 150k ppv buys. Unless this card is completely loaded it will not do great numbers.

    Because Cotto would beat him

If Paul Williams would fight taking full advantage of his mutant physical characteristics he would be this era’s version of Tommy Hearns but he doesn’t. He stands in the pocket and fights like he’s 5 foot 2 with a 67 inch reach. That’s probably also the reason that as a southpaw he has no clue how to deal with other southpaws.

Speaking of southpaws, Alvarez has little or no experience which adds intrigue and PW does quite well against orthodox fighters. I think we will finally see Canelo’s chin checked and at numerous times during the fight. All Williams has to do is use range and even ¾ of that wing span for the half the fight and he could probably win it.

I think Williams will fight as he always does but manage the ud or late stoppage nonetheless. Maybe even a white towel will be thrown in.

I am not convinced that the punch from Martinez has ruined Williams to the point most people do. I could also be gravely mistaken.

And because they'd rather wait 2-3 fights down the line when Cotto has gotten older and Canelo is still coming into his prime.

If williams could fight a boring, boring safety first fight. Avoiding every risky exchange and making the most of his advantages he could win. More than likely he will not.

I favor Canelo and this is shrewd match-making because I believe it appears this is a tougher fight than it really is. However, this is a step in the right direction with regard to challenge.

I hope that Williams wins this and upsets the applecart. If he is to win then he has to knock out or stop Alvarez because they will not allow the golden goose to lose a decision. Making it PPV is a kick in the balls for boxing fans.

I'm interested in seeing the Vegas odds on this because I'm not convinced that anyone really thinks this is a particularly tough fight for Canelo. I agree 100% with p4pking in his post above.

I agree with both counts. I don't think I've ever rooted for Williams before, but I will do so against the vaunted red headed fuck.

Is this a PPV ? If so then that is the bullshit of all bullshit.

Williams gets hit a lot these days, but he looked like he had something left last time out schooling Ishida.

Hulk that's nasty leave the ginger alone, Williams is far from finished it was a clean ko not that he was getting a beating. He got caught with a very good punch out of the blue so to say he is finished is
a bit premature in this point in time.

No he's not finished, but he did look quite poor against Erislandy Lara.

I guess he is now. I'm really upset by what has happened to Williams. Such a shame.
