Floyd-Martinez at 154 is the #1 fight I'd like to see in the sport and has been for a while. If Martinez wins spectacularly against Jr. (dramatic KO), his profile might be raised enough that it becomes a big enough $$ fight for Floyd to take. And winning it would be a legacy win and would clearly put him over Manny p4p, so I don't think it's an impossibility. But all that would have to come together for it to be even 50% likely.
martinez would have to fight with his hands up or floyd would tattoo his face before martinez connects with any effective punches. floyd doesn't leave himself open for punches the way martinez requires his opponents to.
it goes without saying that the higher the weight the bigger the advantage for martinez... and it makes little sense for mayweather to go outside his ideal weight. he has everything to lose and nothing to gain. the dude is rich as hell and his 0 means everything to him.
i'd like to see the fight but i don't see either fighter agreeing to the disadvantages that would be required of either of them. mayweather the weight and martinez the weight/drug testing.
Hmm I think we can agree that Martinez is the harder puncher of the two and if mayweather comes forward it would favour Martinez's style. However knowing how smart Mayweather is, why would he give that advantage to Martinez?
As far as how the fight would play out, I would believe it would be akin to Martinez vs Macklin. Both staying in the middle of the ring trying to get their lead foot outside of their opponent and trying to pop shot. Both boxers are accurate and I have to admit Martinez has a mean proper right handed jab which he can counter Mayweather's lead right with. If there's a 'flaw' with a Philly shell style, I would say that your jab can't be as quick or as snappy coming from the hip, although it would come from an awkward angle.
This one is a tough one and I'll say why I believe that to be the case. Martinez has shown that he can adapt in the ring to change his style, his game-plan depending on the situation. This of course is one Mayweather's greater attributes, that being the case and hands speed being equal (perhaps a small edge to mayweather since he has shorter arms, I think it would come down to a good bigger boxer beating a smaller good boxer.
I almost forgot to add, when Martinez has his hands down, if you'll notice he generally almost always is out of the opponents range. Even though Floyd is a fast boxer, his footwork doesn't make him an explosive lunger and as such I don't think that would be too much of a threat.
