What made you think he had dedication? The "training" in his fancy living room instead of the gym or something else?

That said, I don't know why they even test for marijuana. Not a "performance enhancing" drug (or a big deal). I'm sure he drank alcohol at some point too.
I was being sarcastic about the dedication hence the smiley face. On a serious note, Chavez has issues with alcohol and drugs which have already impacted on his career. He needs to address these issues before he gets back into the ring because he is wasting away the boxing career he has established but more importantly his life.

It seems the lee-way he gives to Pacquiao is now sort of standard with his other core fighters, that needs to stop. He seems to have lost that edge that made him a great trainer, his fighters walk all over him and he allows it and keeps a smile on his face. The Freddie that trained James Toney would have been at their house at 6 am and kick them out of bed to go train. But this one sort of let's them come and go as they please and picks up the paycheck for training them. Freddie needs to get out of the game if he is no longer gonna fight for a fighter's respect, or at least kick them out of his gym if they go about it like Chavez did or he'll have more young fighters disgracing his gym.
Brother I was waiting for you to start blaming Roach for rolling his joints too tight next. Chavez is a grown man. The quicker he relizes it for himself and handlers, people stop making excuses for him the quicker he'll improve. Maybe.

Saying goes you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink...in this case Chavez wouldn't even lead himself to the gym in the first place. In the bigger picture though, yeh...Roach should fire Jr.

This is what i don't get. Didn't jr. say on 24/7 how it was so hard watching his dad use drugs and alcohol during his training later in his career. Now i know that smoking some weed and doing coke are two different things, but come on. Obviously not taking training seriously or having respect for the sport.

Weed probably made him able to withstand all them punches!
Its a drug. And he is a proffessional fighter...but as someone said you cant give him the same sentance as a guy that has been using plaster in his hands his entire career.

Probably does the opposite and helped Sergio.
I agree, but he should get a stiffer reprimand than last time. Maybe they'll try to get his attention this time. To hell with a suspension, take the 3 million back and revoke his boxing license for a year, that should get his attention.

I think a year is fine. Personally i think Margarito got off light for the plaster. Also lets not forget, this isnt the first time they have found something. The diuretic masker, 2 missed tests, a DUI, and now pot. Giving this kid a year... is just what he needs. Not as punishment, but to get his life straight.

In the grand scheme of it, the scale is a bit inconsistent. How far are the following spaced out... Resto/Lewis......TYson and the biters..... Margarito...... Jr. ?
They want your @$$ beat because upsets make news. News brings about excitement, excitement brings about ratings. The objective is to bring you up to the tower and tear your @$$ down. And if you don't believe that, you're crazy.

Junior is officially a dumb-ass, like father like son.

I have a question if someone is smoking weed and is not all there to begin with is he really gonna notice the punishment he takes. Cause I've seen people high as a kite burn their hands on friers and then start laughing their heads off.

yeah but at the same time Freddie doesn't have to take that from Chavez either. Freddie has the right to train any fighter he wants to and to stop training any fighter he wants to. When he trains the likes of Pacquiao who's already gonna draw huge and make a boatload of money for him, he doesn't need a guy like Chavez who hasn't really accomplished anything close and isn't taking the sport seriously in his camp.

Freddie should have let Chavez go the moment he started disrespecting him and his gym. Chavez may be a grown man, and Freddie may not be a babysitter, but Freddie could always say "If you keep disrespecting me and my gym, I'm not going to train you and you can get the hell out." But he didn't, and now this happens. Chavez Jr is not going to bring Freddie any glory and is not going to draw like Pacquiao if he keeps shooting himself in the foot and won't ever regain a world championship either. The dude has the biggest fight of his life with national attention on him and he parties, wakes up at 8 pm and smokes weed. This isn't a guy that's gonna be a world champion again anytime soon nor have the mentality to hold on to one if he got it and he really doesn't need to, he's headlining national TV, he has a fan base, millions will watch him and he never has to win another championship again. If anything that will make him even less inclined to train hard if he just has to "show up" now. Which is a shame because he actually HAS talent, but he thinks he's entitled to things he's yet to earn. Actually.. no fighter earns the right to barely train, wake up at 8 pm, work out in their living room and smoke weed before the biggest fight of their lives. Not until retirement...

And It's saddening to see a coach like Freddie who is one of the most respected have to put up with that. I agree 100% with what you said that Freddie should fire Chavez Jr, and truth is he should have done that a long time ago, because if Chavez doesn't get it by now and keeps getting disciplined over and over again and keeps continuing to break rules there's no hope for him. How many times has he been busted for something or done something stupid, and yet he still does these things. Freddie shouldn't waste his time.

Sad thing is, despite losing every round but the last against Sergio. Because of him testing positive for weed added on top of that. Casual fans are gonna say he deserves a rematch because he nearly knocked him out when high and if sobered up he'd knock him out for sure. Completely ignoring the previous 11 rounds.

It really doesn't bother me too much, Canelo is gonna surpass him in popularity soon enough if he already hasn't and Chavez will be in the what could have been category. But as far as Freddie goes he needs to let go of this kid as fast as possible, if there was a last straw, this was it.

Being tested positive for weed is just dumb, you have to wonder what he was thinking if anything, from the looks of it he's fucked up his career. His fans might not give a shit, but HBO and/or his sponsors sure as hell will, I bet he gets dumped.

I guess what sticks in my my mind is this was Junior's biggest fight of his life and he smokes weed sometime before the fight? What does that tell you, he either knows he's going to get caught or doesn't care. No, marijuana is not a PED, but it's a banned substance, and there's simply no excuse for a pro being caught using it.

Jose Sulaiman won't stand for Junior's disrespect of the sport. I'm certain Junior will receive a lengthy suspension.
