Maidana did struggle a bit against Soto Karass who is a bigger man and has an iron will.

Like others have said Maidana just does NOT belong at welterweight, he beat Soto Karass because Karass is a fringe contender and Maidana is a former World Title holder.

His class shined through despite it being the wrong weight for him.
@Hulk - although Robert Garcia is adding wrinkles to Maidana's game that might make it possible to be somewhat effective at welterweight. I agree, however, his ideal weight class is junior welterweight. I hope the rumors are not true that Canelo is considering facing Maidana at 154.

Was a cracker while it lasted, a few more fights under Garcia and Maidana could well improve a lot, fighting Canelo at 154 is suicide though, 140 is Maidanas best wieght where he could clean the division out.

Agree with this. I am not convinced with Maidana as a menacing puncher at 147; I think he could make some marvelous fights, but not dominate as was his potential at 140.

I really liked his jab and his attempt at defense. Although he really got to work on it, he got hit with too many straight punches for my taste. I salute him for not smothering himself like he always used to and if he went back to 140 while keeping this jab I think a fight between him and Rios would be very enjoyable to watch.

Sorry Hulk I was trying to find your thread to post this on as I only watched it the weekend.

It is true Maidana did make a lot of adjustments which show he can learn and adapt. Soto may not be the quickest or slickest which may have made Marcus better than he really was, but his jab was fantastic and whilst he tired in one round, he came back and landed the KO.

No problem. You know I can't stay mad at you

His jab was great and he did tire in the middle rounds as usual but as usual he fought through it and came back. He is just one tough, rugged SOB.
