Can someone tell me the positives of this kind of hardcore IslamI mean what do they bring to the table? Really what do they do? They skew the words of the Q'uran and they oppress (at the very least) any nonbelievers. So how do these guys benefit society on the whole?
Any of my lefty friends care to answer that?

It is up to Egyptians how their country is governed and run. If they want moderates they can have them. If they want nutters, they can have them. Egyptians know how to topple governments if they abuse and so it is now up to them. It is none of our business. Would we allow St. Pauls Cathedral to be destroyed? No. I highly doubt Egyptians would let their prize tourism and cultural assets be destroyed either.

Are we? I mean it seems to me that Obama is down for putting our Allies in positions that leave us in an uncomfortable spot. We allow for Mubarak to be ousted, a guy who evil though he may have been kept the peace with Israel. And we help Libya overthrow Quaddhafi whom although not a friend of ours had learned his lesson in dealing with the US so much so that after 9/11 he was one of the first to jump up and say "I had 0 to do with it" and now Libya is divided and things are looking a bit scarier there. We choose NOT to help Iran who's population is more Western oriented. And we're allegedly giving guns to people in Syria who really don't look like "the good guys"....it's mixed signals and its a bit unnerving

Lyle, you're right. I can't see any positives from this kind of hardcore religious fascism. None whatsoever.
That said, I can't see any positives from any kind of hardcore religious fascism, whether it be Christian fundamentalists in the UK or US, Hindu maniacs in India or whatever.
Any school of thought that wants to tell other people what to do, what to think and how to live their lives according to the wishes of a possibly non-existent deity is always open to abuse and has never helped anyone in human history, I would argue
