In the long run I guess so, but for right now it'd just make Floyd look spineless. Pacquiao is coming off of 2 losses against much smaller men than Floyd has been fighting, and off the back of that KO against a guy who couldn't win a round against Floyd. Who knows if he's even going to bounce back to form at all, that was as good a one punch KO as I've ever seen live.
Especially given that Mayweather supposedly wasn't willing to make the fight out of principle over drug testing or dealing with Arum etc. To just put that aside and take the fight now for the lions share would kind of stink to me, although I'm sure it'd still be by far the biggest purse out there.
This is professional boxing mate, at the highest level. Serious money to be made. If Arum really is feeling intimations of mortality he's going to want to go out with a bang and he's in a position to make Floyd an offer he can't refuse.
There are endless potential problems that might prevent these fights happening, not least that Floyd may be contractually obligated to GBP seeing as they loaned him serious money to pay off his debts before the Marquez fight. 50 Cent says that Mayweather Promotions is just a name, it's not an incorporated company and basically contracts GBP to run promotions for Mayweather fights. GBP may have Floyd under some sort of legal obligations that prevent him doing a deal with Arum.
Yeah I'm not oblivious to all that, just think it stinks personally should the fight come off now. As I said I wouldn't be at all surprised if Arum will suddenly bend over to salvage whatever cut he can before the fight isn't viable at all. I'm not sure why GBP would prevent Floyd from working with Arum though, always thought that was more of a personal matter between old Bob and Floyd. GBP and Top rank have worked together on plenty of other big fight cards.
Schaefer hates Arum and Arum doesn't like Schaefer much either. Golden Boy have more top fighters than Top Rank, more champions and more TV dates. Arum's PPV fighters (Manny, JCC Junior, who am I forgetting?) have all had big losses and Arum is 81. He'd like nothing better than to go from where he is now to makin the two biggest fights of the year next year and take them away from GBP. Compared to before Arum's negotiating position is considerably weakened so he may well make Floyd a fantastic offer.
No...
Styles make fights and both are counter punchers. One has to initiate.
