Joe Louis was a great man, the government screwed him over which is how he became broke and stayed broke, a very sad end for a great man. He helped break the color barrier for the PGA tour & refused to hold exhibitions in segregated crowds when he was in the Armed Forces.....great man.
Brockton, Schmelling caught Louis off guard it was a crossroads fight a cagey vet vs a young up & comer and Joe had to learn his lesson.....he didn't lose again until 1950. 12 years of being undefeated. Conn was slick, Marciano was not slick. Two Ton Tony knocked Joe down, but that's it.
