Arrow Broner vs. Rees/Sakio Bika vs. Nikola Sjekloca on HBO Saturday - fight/chat thread

Sorry but I have zero interest in watching and or promoting a Broner fight, HBO can fuck themselves with that shit. If someone wants to start a Broner vs. Gavin Rees thread, please feel free to do so.

    Feb. 16
At Atlantic City, N.J. (HBO) Adrien Broner vs. Gavin Rees, 12 rounds, for Broner's WBC lightweight title; Sakio Bika vs. Nikola Sjekloca, 12 rounds, WBC super middleweight eliminator; Demetrius Hopkins vs. Charles Whittaker, 12 rounds, junior middleweights.

I'm looking forward to the Bika-Sjekloca fight more than the main event, because Broner vs. Rees is a mismatch.

I'll be rooting for Rees to win, but I think it's unlikely.

Bika-Sjekloca is the more interesting matchup.

Well, HBO is sticking this POS Broner in our faces like he's the next Mayweather. Until they put someone competitive in front of him, like Rios, D. Garcia, Lucas, et al, I couldn't give a shit less about looking at this clown.

I'll watch the 2 undercard fights, Bika vs. Sjekloca, and Hopkins vs. Whittaker if they show it, and switch channels when the "main event" comes on.

    cheers

I don't like Broner either and its very obvious he's not facing any punchers or anyone truly world class or elite. However, we can't just stick our head in the sand and pretend Broner isn't a good young fighter.

Bika is the man ! Love watching that animal fight, hope he beats this other guy so he can get a rematch with the now more vulnerable Bute.

The DeMarco winner is a solid dominate victory!

I'll give Broner a pass here if he meets the Vasquez/ Burns winner next

I lost a lot of respect for Broner when he came in over-weight for the Escobedo fight, but his performance vs DeMarco was flawless!

I don't know why people are saying "I'm not going to watch this" it's free not PPV lol. It's pretty boring watching them keep feeding Broner bums as they continue the hype machine behind him but meh it's free so I'll watch after all it is boxing on saturday night what else am I gonna watch? .. I'm more intrigued in the Hopkins fight I still dont know how to feel about him.

A lot of folks had DeMarco rated highly at 135 going into the fight & still do, I would have had him in the top 10 going in but around 4-5, he was well behind vs Linares who imo is the best fighter he had fought since being stopped by Valero

That was really Broners 1st fight at the weight & he took on one of the top 5 guys, I think people are being a little hard on him because of his grinding personality

If he fights the winner of the unification fight next then I see no reason to complain

He is sort of in a lose-lose situation with some fans, if stepped over 135 & went straight to 140 to face some of the top guys there, there would be those saying he avoided Burns, DeMarco & Vasquez

I'm with you, I don't care for some of his actions but he is very good. He's never out of position, has fast hands and always sees a weak spot.
If he keeps his sideshow out of the ring I'll be happy. Broner took care of DeMarco with no problem at all, so it's hard to figure out why everyone is complaining about weak opponents.

I feel the same way. Can't stand Broner's attitude and gimmick, but I'll watch it and root for the Brit.

Winner of Sakio Bika vs. Nikola Sjekloca is likely to face Bute next!

No interest in that fight. Bute already beat Bika and Bika will win this weekend, but it's a good fight on paper. Glad to see Bika back in the ring. It seems like he hasn't been in a meaningful fight in forever.

As for Broner, I understand the dislike for his personality, but his thrashing of Demarco was legit. There's no reason for him to go up in weight if he can make 135 comfortably. I want to see him against Vasquez at 135, if he gets by Burns. That said, I understand why people would not want HBO wasting $ on a Rees fight. The outcome is predetermined.

Agree. No reason for Bute to fight Bika again. For Broner, I do not understand the hatred levelled at the guy. He's a goofball clown who looks a little silly with his Floyd worship but so what. Irrelevant. I don't watch boxing matches because of a particular persons personality. That is merely a by-product of the main ingredient which is pugilism. Lots of my favourite fighters were wing nuts.

Many people were taking Demarco across the boxing forum world and several sports writers. Of course which is the norm these days after suffering from a good ole can of whoop ass, he is a bum.
And if someone could I'd like to know a reason for calling Gavin a bum also?

Hbo probably got that fight for a song and we do not know if anyone else was offered the fight. Keep in mind that this is an optional defense but he will be faced with a mandatory next. I have a feeling that he will go to 140 because they will not be able to come to terms with Burns. In addition there appears to be a lot more options in that area. I don't think anyone is going to be lining up to fight him at 135. I think he will be a welter by December or shortly thereafter.
