For those who hate this kid I suppose there is nothing he can do.

He's tried for Burns twice in two different weight classes.

There was hope that it could be done after Ricky split from Warren. It appears now that the split was not as clean as it seemed and that Warren may have legal standing. Burns could be in court and in limbo for the next year or more. Gamboa is on the slow boat to irrelevance.

No rule exists that he must stop at every half division along the way. If he wants to bypass 140 then so be it. He's still moving up 2 divisions to a direct title shot. Not unlike guys like Armstrong, Floyd, Manny and countless others. Yes its a trinket and I share your pain in that regard but they are all trinkets. To bad Paulie cant crack an egg yolk because his movement and speed could possibly bring Broner out of his comfort zone.
@IamInuit - That's another reason the fight is unwatchable for me, besides Pauli having no power, his fights are snoozers. Pauli vs. broner? That's a horrible matchup.
But to tell you the truth, I just can't stand looking at broner and I won't do a fight/chat thread no-matter who he's fighting. The only broner fight I ever plan on watching is a re-play of a fight when he gets his puny ass kicked.
If Broner does lose, you'll be pissed you didn't watch.
Broner is hard to take, I'll be the first to admit that, I find myself thinking bad thoughts when he pulls some of his BS, but I'm looking foreward to the next thing he does to keep things stirred up.
Is he really following Floyd to SHOWTIME or doing some hardball negotiating with HBO for three or four mil a fight? There are probably some folks at HBO who are losing sleep. I hope!

Broner is not fighting Floyd...EVER! They are grooming him to be the next Floyd...both repped by Al Haymon...and they are even hamming up the big bro/little bro angle in public. Not to mention...why would Broner go up against the best fighter in the world when he has not even been tested this early in his career?! He would get schooled and his people don't need that for him at this stage. As for the Paulie fight...if Malignaggi had pop in his punch...this could be an interesting fight...since Broner's defense is VERY overrated. There are better fights for Broner to make at 140...oh well.

How does he become the next Floyd if he doesn't fight the current one? Floyd only became Floyd when he beat the then top PPV fighter. Same goes for Manny. Broner has to beat an unbeaten Floyd or it's going to be a long hard road for him to do anything like Floyd has in terms of making money.

Broner needs to beat the best at lightweight before moving up to 140lb not moving up 2 divisions to fight an B level champion. If Broner wins, will he stay at the weight in which he may be too small for? Does he go back down to the lower weights? Strange decision.

Normally I'd agree with you but Burns is going to need a warm up and Gamboa is in some kind of Arum bubble. Burns then has Warren to deal with and a court battle. Not sure why he should hang around when he cant get either other top dog in the division. In addition 140 is pretty dam busy and if you count breaks after matches then he could be toiling there waiting for someone and by the time he probably gets one they would be most likely headed to 147 anyway. Size imo wont be a factor. Broner fought as high as 140 earlier in his career and over 135 several times. He's got a huge frame and wont have any issues at 147.

It does take time to acclimatise to the bigger weight. Floyd struggled at the weight at first he has grown into the weight and is at his best.

Its ALL about the money and making it now for Paulie and also maintaining the numbers for Broner. Very good fight for both camps!

He is avoiding guys at 140...you think he is going to go up and fight the best fighter on the planet at this stage of his career?! They are trying to hype this kid up by having him fight no real threats right now. Unless this fight took place in a few years (by which time Floyd will be retired or will not risk fighting a much younger fighter)...it's not happening. And as i mentioned earlier...they are playing up the whole older brother/younger brother angle. But i agree with you that it will be tough for him to match Floyd in the money making department. Until Mayweather retires or loses...no one is matching him in the promotion/PPV business..

Paulie is nowhere near as good as Broner. He's never won a big fight against a name opponent, and he should have retired by now before he gets hurt

Is that saying less about Broner or more about Paulie? Malignaggi is certainly the best name Broners ever faced.

Broner unofficially jumped to welter in his charade match with Escobedo, hes walking around near 150 by the looks of him. He also needs to put the Floyd talk to bed..hes nothing like him and thinking that in the ring will get him in serious trouble.

Paulie is the seasoned welterweight so does have that advantage. It will be a close fight.

He's not avoiding anyone at 140. That division is busy for at least the rest of this year. Whats he supposed to do wait until everyone is finished their business? There are no big fights he can make at that weight presently and all one has to do is look at the scheduele. Armstrong jumped straight to 147 and so did Shane.

Regardless of other fighters schedules...Broner is not stepping up to fight anyone of real threat right now. Mosley jumped up to 147 and fought Oscar (PED use aside)...hardly the same as going up to fight Paulie.

    As did Robert Guerrero.
