Yup. Not a big surprise. But, wow, this is literally going to be deep freeze. I don't see any thawing in the relationships for a long time. This is big.

HBO was worried that it would invest a ton of money in Broner, only to have him jump ship later on in his career, like Mayweather. Fair enough.

I wonder how this affects the mid-market promoters, Dibella, Shaw and the like. I bet it makes their fighters more in demand because no matter how deep the alleged stables are, at some they'll run out.

Would it have been more prudent to just stop televising GB fights, as opposed to announcing the end of the relationship?

The other big question here is whether Showtime, which is a smaller network than HBO in terms of $ to devote to boxing, can afford Canelo, Broner and Mayweather? Not to mention, Garcia and Hopkins.

Is HBO trying to get out of the boxing business? What a shame.

Assuming something is in the works with other promoters and its not another step in them walking away from the biz, I'm not all that shook up. Sounds like a power move and sure they are trying to piece it back together. More oppurtunity and different rosters at work for lesser known fighters. Stroked guys like Canelo, Hopkins, Broner will land on their feet. Showtime is blowing up in a great way.

Does anyone have a listing of GBP fighters? Wonder if they will see an exodus and run of broken contract suits?

There are a lot of GBP fighters and a limited Showtime budget. And lots of open dates on HBO. Guys like Goosen, De Bella and Gary Shaw are going to get opportunities.

It is good that HBO or Showtime do not tie themselves to one promoter because it forces fighters to sign for them when they may not wish too. It all strikes like a political power struggle amongst personalities that will settle down eventually which has stopped some major fights from happening. I hope the big fights can be made and these big TV companies forget the promoters and just go directly to the fighters and eventually make the big fights.

Yeah nothing has really changed and it still remains a battle of attrition. They just changed jerseys or rather lawyers lol. I cant get showtime on the tube so I'm pissed off for purely selfish reasons but at least streams are becoming more and more available. I thought something was up when Showtime pretty much made Broner the guest of honour at the Abril fight. This has probably been in the works for quite some time.

Now would be a perfect time for the middle of the road promoters to approach the networks

I'm not really sure that this affects what fights are made if you consider that GB an TR weren't working together anyway.

With Pac out , Money & Canelo jumped ship after playing second fiddle to Pac ass kissing HBO. GBP fighters know the state of Top Rank stable of fighters is weak and thin. In addition Arum has his weak stable of fighters fighting in house fighters. GBP has done everything including financial incentives to lure Top Rank to fight their fighters. The latest being Nonito not accepting a large purse to fight Mares. HBO & Pac set themselves up for this gloomy situation themselves. With top Arum fighter out and Money and Canelo jumping to Showtime. HBO and their Pac ass kissing , catch weight promoting ways are out. In promoting the catch weight thing many deserving up and coming opponents were passed over in favor of old marque and safe immoble light hitting opponents for revenue. Now Pac can fight the Rios, Alvarados, Bradley, Jones, Vargas, Omotoso or JMM (who should be able to dictate terms not Pac in a 5th) F**K Pac (now down) and F*** HBO soon to be down. HBO played us all for $$$. Looks like we boxing fans will have our sport back and other promoters can now have some say so !

HBO + Top Rank = a stable of crap to average boxers.

It appears Mares knew a big change in the landscape of boxing was soon to come. He moved up because he is not told who to fight like Nonito and other Arum fighters. Mares probably knew that the network thing was coming down the pipeline so he would just focus on his own thing. Mares made it public that he wanted to fight Nonito and the money was there ( not his fault) and tha Nonito was just the reincarnation of Pac Arum style. Nonito will never be able to do the same now with this network / promotor fiasco. Nonito is a really good over hyped fighter and we may never get to realize / witness his true potential. ATG Nonito talk is premature and a funny joke and needs to stop.

In summary GPB has the now fighters of today and does not need HBO.
