Yes they have been. 1904. Lightweight Joe Gans and welterweight Joe Walcott (Barbados. not Jersey) met at a catchweight of 138. Barney Ross and Jimmy McLarnin was at a catchweight of 143. Henry Armstrong was in a couple of catchweight fights. They always been around. I don't know why muthafuukas all of a sudden wanna complain about it. I don't mind catchweight fights. It helps make some fights that wouldn't normally take place. It's a risk for both fighters. Nobody is forcing fighters to fight at a catchweight. They agree to it. If I remember correctly all 3 Gatti-Ward fights were at a catchweight. Does anybody remember that? No. Because nobody cried about it. It wasn't important. People just remember the fights

Nobody is suggesting that catch weights did not happen and I can go cherry pick a few from 1865 through the early part of the 20th century.. Gans also fought Langford with no catchweight and Armstrong challenged Ross and weighed in under lightweight. It was the exception then not the norm. Big difference and nobody pulled that shit to void title fights. Today every other week there is a catchweight. Make the weight obligated by that strap you ride or GTFO of the division.
