Myself and Mrs Greenbeanz went out and had tapas for lunchMany English seemed to be embarrassed about celebrating St George's Day and as Al has alluded to the fact that St George was Greek/roman which probably has something to do with it. Then add in the fact that we are a Protestant country then Saints are not really our bag. There is also the association with far right groups and the St Georges Cross but we should not be afraid to celebrate our Englishness. The White Dragon flag that was around in the time of Alfred the Great has been obscured by rewriting of history but it is the flag we fought under as Angles. Funny thing is as soon as the Euro or World Cup football tournaments come up, houses and flats across the country in a great patriotic fervour will hang St Georges flags out of and across their windows and cars before us going out in the semi-finals on penalties. I think it is because then we feel that we are once again the Oppressed minority in a fake mini war.
We should really celebrate by starting the day with a full English Breakfast, go and watch a game of football and then drink some Good old English Ale. Making sure to join some queues and complain about the weather and the French.
