Gentlemen, where are the signs that Martinez has aged? The only signs I see are that he needed surgery on his knee and shoulder, but in the ring, he looked the best he probably has against Junior. Save the final round, he thorougly dominated Junior. Junior didn't even win one round on my scorecard until the last. Let that resonate for a moment. I think you can make a good argument that it wasn't Junior's pressure that brought about near disaster in the last round, but Martinez's error. Barker and Macklin won rounds against Sergio. So, in my opinion, there is a reasonable chance that Sergio is in now peak form.
To play devil's advocate, however, Sergio is 38 years old, and coming off of surgery on his knee, which for a fighter that relies on movement, and foot placement, could really affect his ability to fight his fight. Murray proved he is at the top level with his performance against Sturm. Granted Sturm isn't Martinez, but Murray proved his mettle then, and he did it in Germany in front of Sturm's fans. He won't be intimidated in Buenos Aires. He's also younger and will fight the fight of his life. A win here propels him to stardom and big money fights.
If the odds were such that there was value in placing a few quid on Murray, it might make s$nse to do it, but the safer bet clearly is Martinez.
Has Murray ever been dropped or stopped?
