What a load of bullshit. The easy thing would be to stand by and watch his friend get battered. An even easier thing would be to turn down the responsibility of working the corner when it turned out the qualified experienced trainer couldn't make it.
Typical Beanzy sticking up for Barker. That was a shocking decision. He wasnt going to win the fight but he wasnt hurt, cut damaged and Alexander had one hand.
It would have been the same had Tony Simms been in the corner. If Purdy could not throw more against a one handed fighter then he clearly was gaining nothing from fighting at short notice and being repeatedly punched. He struggled to make the weight last time out and I doubt you will see him again at welter. I trust Barkers judgement way more than that of some armchair fan.
I box a bit myself so I know what it takes in there and I'd never ask or expect anyone to stay in the ring longer then they can or I think it's safe to do so. There are thousands of fights that should have been stopped before this that haven't been.

It's not about how dangerous it was for Purdy but rather how futile and pointless it was. Colin Lynes boxed rings around him ffs. I am no Alexander fan but credit where it is due he was never going to be beaten by a weight drained Purdy last night even with only one hand.

Do you really think they break their hand or is it really strained and a bit swollen?

I think 4 rounds left over is enough to give somebody who is loosing a fight a chance against any boxer...never mind somebody who was slowing with a duffed up hand. Under the circumstances i think it was cruel to deny Purdy his chance to come back in the fight.. He was loosing.. But he was taking everything Alexander had to throw at him..Purdy had a chance to turn the fight around no matter how slim it was.. He was pleading with his corner not to stop the fight.

It was stopped too soon. Disagree with me if you want to but know that you are wrong. I wonder how people would have reacted to Burns being stopped last week, after all he was in a similar situation.
