In what states is it an offense to carry a concealed weapon or is that cool over there?

I think Illinois is the only state that doesn't issue concealed carry licenses and they have a bill in their state legislation to change that. That being said the devil is in the details. The actual procedure to get licenses and then places you are actually allowed to carry vary greatly from state to state. Arizona is probably the most lenient state I've been in regarding ease to get licensed and then general community and law enforcement state to do it. I've also heard that Utah is very pro-carry. Some states are now allowing open carry as well. Texas doesn't but Arizona does.

In Utah, I understand that, in the courthouses, they have lockers in the hall for your gun. The University of Utah, in Salt lake City, tried to ban concealed carry on campus and they were not allowed to do so. I read the other day that Utah has the most liberal gun laws in the nation. There was a county, one of the very rural ones, that tried to make gun ownership mandatory. But Utah respects individual liberty so that was not allowed either.
So is an exposed weapon a crime in some states?
Could you walk around like a cop with one on a belt?
I have seen people in Arizona and Montana carrying openly. I understand that it is the same in New Mexico.
You don't see it often. Though in Arizona, just by coincidence, I saw 8-10 people carrying openly, all the same gas station. One of them was an obese woman in a floral print dress, with a gunbelt around her.
Wow, unheard of out here.
Im from the uk and i find this very disturbing. America is a huge place and these gun laws seem to differ from state to state.
Why is there so much variation in this gun culture in each state?
Something like this zimmerman case has never happened over here..how can a country love the gun so much.
Oh you find it "disturbing"![]()
America IS a big place and gun laws DO vary from state to state and where you see the most strict gun laws is where you see the worst, most violent crimes...most often using guns.
It's NEVER happened in the UK?!?!? Dude in 2005 police IN ENGLAND shot a guy 8 times and he was just standing there being Brazilian in the middle of the day.
Americans love guns because Americans believe in liberty and individuality. The gun levels the playing field when it comes to crime, the idea that any private law abiding citizen could be packing heat really sinks into the mind of a criminal and they want nothing to do with robbing someone who could draw down on them.
The media play up gun violence to try and get Americans to give up their guns but I tell you you're safer WITH a gun than without one.
It really varies from state to state and even then cities have local ordinances. In Texas it is a crime to open carry a handgun but not a rifle/shotgun. That being said even here you would be harassed by the police if you walked down the street even in a rural area with a rifle on your shoulder.

A few years ago, in Anaconda (the next town over, 27 miles), I saw two kids on bikes. This was during hunting season and they were both wearing orange vest and back packs. Each of them was carrying, over his shoulder as they rode with one hand on the handlebars, a scoped rifle. Nobody bothered them, nobody harassed them, and they just went on about their business.
That is why I live here.
