I think Hbo are scrambling a bit. Carl deserves every penny he gets but he should be throwing the hook out and seeing if he can get Showtime interested. Pretty soon Hbo will be feeding off its own body fat as far as boxing is concerned. Arum does not need them really. Manny is on his way out of the building, Marquez will always be a kind of free agent and their days of even telling Martinez who he can fight are in the past. If I'm Froch I'm not taking the first offer w/o putting out a serious feeler.
How does Arum not need them?

Well they kinda need him. If Arum wanted to he could go independent, Abc or Nbc or as streaming becomes more and more advanced run his whole card off Top Rank TV. I think Hbo may have cooked their own goose.

The big promoters defnitely see HD streaming as the future once the world gets superfast broadband. Instead of 30 million HBO subscribers their potential audience is a few billion. But they need an outlet for their fighters in America both to build them and be able to pay competitive purses so that they keep them. Macau and Singapore are OK for Asian fighters but those fights rely on casino money. The big PPV money has to be earned in America.
