Just to generalise a bit ..... there's nothing that British society likes better than being looked down upon and made to feel inadequate (hence inventing a monarchy that we can feel socially inferior to). Cue lots of media driven forelock tugging, bowing and scraping ..... all tinged with a bit of republican sentiment, and smattering of pity about the life its being born into.

Huge recession, tough times ...... lets give the masses something to feel pointlessly happy or entertained by. Anybody would think it was done on purpose

And the beauty is the child will know no different. Oh I am sure he will go and buy something at the local shop while at University. He will join one of the armed forces and be known as plain old George Cambridge/Wales. Yes we will be in 'awe' when he marries a 'commoner' who is 'only' a second or third cousin.

The Windsor's are good at patronizing and perhaps most importantly for a hereditary monarchy, creating heirs...
