what a bitch, the first time he steps it up against decent opposition who isn't shot to shit and he gets owned and how does he respond to losing? like a spoiled little kid who picks up his ball and storms off home, I said it in an old thread, Cleverly would get whooped any time he stepped it up, that it was hilarious when people said he'd actually have a chance against B-Hop and the other top guys at Lt Heavy

What does a fight with Hopkins have to do with a fight with Kovalev? Whats so hilarious about those of us who thought/think he can beat him? Style wise Kovalev is more suited for Hopkins then Cleverly is. Whats hilarious is people who are anointing Kovalev as the next coming of Christ while at the same time shitting on Cleverly.

Ortiz got shit because he quit in the ring.

Cleverly just got knocked out. He didn't quit. And is now contemplating his future.

There is nothing even remotely similar.

I think all the talk about him 'still having the style blah' to throttle Hookins is a call for nap time. You're talking about a raw ish kid who was literally just stomped through like a pile of dry leaves, mentally and physically. I don't even think he 'knows' his style and clearly hasn't demonstrated it consistently. Hopkins would be like water torture and be gaming Cleverly psychologically before the first bell. It's early for him and his true confidence, not false bravado like "we're going in to KO Kovalev" ffs, but true confidence has to be in shambles. Like every young guy tasting public defeat for the first time he needs to dig into his own chest and decide what's right for him. And stop all the non sense about relating to a Calzaghe, comparisons and find his own identity.

    He should leave boxing

    OR

He can take the amir khan route and make tonnes of money staying clear of a certain type of fighter.

You could make a case of khan getting a decision against garcia or prescott if it happened now but nathan will never EVER beat that russian.

Either way, nathan gets props for asking for that fight and wanting to prove himself.
He still has youth on his side...

scary feeling when, in the first round, you catch the other guy's jab in your glove and FEEL it. Or take the right hand off your shoulder and it moves you...He felt that and didn't know how to handle it; it seems he let it screw with his mind.
Nigel Benn felt it with McClellan and went to war. Tunney knew it going in against Dempsey and stuck to his fight plan. It affects people differently...
Boxing is a lot dependant on how you control your feelings. And no slight to him, he took the fight, took the punches and got up.

Cleverly is a likeable man and comes across well in interviews. He does need to change trainers and move away from his dad, he has not developed his boxing skills and ability, it is the same every fight with no progress. Nathan can come back better and improved.

How anyone can still feel this way is a bit of a laugh, honestly. Is Hopkins suddenly some kind of flower puncher? Cleverly doesn't have a clue how to defend himself from what I've seen, the old man would punish him badly.

Hopkins would run him into every punch in the book and stop him before the late rounds, is what I have to say. Outboxing him would just be part of it.

Hopkins hasn't fought anyone worse than Cleverly since you've been watching porn
