AWESOME FIGHT! up there, if not surpassing Dan Henderson x Shogun. for the record, i picked JBJ to win.

they both could've pressed when they had the advantage, but both were noticeably tired... they really pushed each other. rd 4 if maybe another 10 secs, would've been decisive.

Anyone see the 2 "jeet teks" in rd 1? anyone see the 2 "stop-hit" jabs in rd 3? sure i missed more 'pure technique moments'

oblique kick was called 'elliptical kick' by rogan. think JBJ does it TOO much. i think he should've used it more as a stop-hit vs using it to annoy/distract/damage.

impressed with gus' boxing... there were times that mma boxing would've thrown a "1" and then step back, no followup, he threw a 1 and immediatedly followed with a "2"... there is something different though with his 1-2... can't pin it down, but need to rewatch/make gif's... want to say he lunged/stepped forward...

one slomo showed it really seemed like gus was out to thumb gouge jbj's eye.

strategy - chop the tree down, jbj did it rds 1-3, and it paid off in rds 4-5 - but gus had already damaged jbj a bit, and jbj didn't press when he should've. tired/didn't want to overextend himself, whatever, there were moments when i felt he should've pressed when he had gus hurt ... thought jbj would've jabbed more to take advantage of his ~5" reach advantage... instead he used a sitff-armed palm to try to hold gus in place, but gus was able to (IIRC) land a cross!

Hell of a fight. If Gus was the champ, he'd have won the decision. But if you want to beat the champ via decision, it's gotta be 100% decisive, and it wasn't. I understand he was being cautious so as not to eat one of the champs unorthodox strikes, but he ate one anyways, and barely survived it.

Also, I was going crazy when Gus continually disengaged without a parting gift time and time again. I know he was afraid of the takedown, so didn't want to kick, but even just leave with a jab or something. He already had the cut there to work on. There are so many smaller things, that had he done just one or two, he could have stolen it. Hell, if he had ended every round with his hands raised like Jones did, instead of walking to his corner looking tired, we'd probably have a new champ.

Either way, this has really shaken up the division I feel. We've got a contender that deserves the belt in many people's minds, and a once invulnerable champ suddenly looking VERY human and very beatable.
Boxing is like a handjob, and MMA is like a hot sweaty orgy with 5 chicks. I could never say no to a handjob, but which would you rather have?
