    Default Jon Jones vs Gustafsson

So I had the Swede winning 1-3 rounds and Jones winning 4,5. 1-3 were close but I thought Gus had the edge in all three. That being said what a great fight. That was one of the best title fights I've ever seen. I think that firmly shuts the door on any Jones to HW move or at least anytime soon. If Cormier beats Nelson (as he should) then he and Gus should fight for the next title shot against the Glover/Jones winner.

Just got back from watching this and it was a good one. If not for that elbow Jones landed in the 4th the decision would have been much easier imo. Still, this was a great fight and an extremely close fight that surprised me to be honest because I hadn't seen where Alex had really impressed me but he did tonight. What took place tonight was good for the LHW division as Alex has upped his stock even in a losing effort. I just wish Gustaffson would have stepped in with one of those uppercuts when he was breaking the clinch with Jones....but it really was a great fight and great effort by both. Glad I saw it, btw Renan Barao is a problem. That kick came fast and Wineland was actually looking pretty good until then.

Don't really follow mma enough to know but honestly, was dude brought in more on size and range rather than what he's shown thus far? It seemed that was the selling point in promos. Jones looked rather dismissive from what I saw. Sounds like a rematch in the works?

This makes me think moussasi would light jones up if he could keep it standing but he's td isn't that great so...gustafson showed more than he deserved it, very close and could have gone either wau

Oh this pissed me off. You clearly saw that Alexander had this fight! Cut open first round, takedowns...
But i read on the news that the judgers will sit down and deal with the scoring again! Because Alex domineered more than half the match and even got Jon down!

Jon won the last part of this fight but was it enough for a win?

Alexander: It's hard to say anything after a fight like this, but if you gotta beat a champ you need to do it well, I didn't do it enough. but it wasn't far away.

We will see more title matches with Alexander Gustafsson

I fell asleep before the main event but most of what I've read is about Jones losing and that's from Jones fans.

AWESOME FIGHT! up there, if not surpassing Dan Henderson x Shogun. for the record, i picked JBJ to win.

they both could've pressed when they had the advantage, but both were noticeably tired... they really pushed each other. rd 4 if maybe another 10 secs, would've been decisive.

Anyone see the 2 "jeet teks" in rd 1? anyone see the 2 "stop-hit" jabs in rd 3? sure i missed more 'pure technique moments'

oblique kick was called 'elliptical kick' by rogan. think JBJ does it TOO much. i think he should've used it more as a stop-hit vs using it to annoy/distract/damage.

impressed with gus' boxing... there were times that mma boxing would've thrown a "1" and then step back, no followup, he threw a 1 and immediatedly followed with a "2"... there is something different though with his 1-2... can't pin it down, but need to rewatch/make gif's... want to say he lunged/stepped forward...

one slomo showed it really seemed like gus was out to thumb gouge jbj's eye.

strategy - chop the tree down, jbj did it rds 1-3, and it paid off in rds 4-5 - but gus had already damaged jbj a bit, and jbj didn't press when he should've. tired/didn't want to overextend himself, whatever, there were moments when i felt he should've pressed when he had gus hurt ... thought jbj would've jabbed more to take advantage of his ~5" reach advantage... instead he used a sitff-armed palm to try to hold gus in place, but gus was able to (IIRC) land a cross!

Hell of a fight. If Gus was the champ, he'd have won the decision. But if you want to beat the champ via decision, it's gotta be 100% decisive, and it wasn't. I understand he was being cautious so as not to eat one of the champs unorthodox strikes, but he ate one anyways, and barely survived it.

Also, I was going crazy when Gus continually disengaged without a parting gift time and time again. I know he was afraid of the takedown, so didn't want to kick, but even just leave with a jab or something. He already had the cut there to work on. There are so many smaller things, that had he done just one or two, he could have stolen it. Hell, if he had ended every round with his hands raised like Jones did, instead of walking to his corner looking tired, we'd probably have a new champ.

Either way, this has really shaken up the division I feel. We've got a contender that deserves the belt in many people's minds, and a once invulnerable champ suddenly looking VERY human and very beatable.
Boxing is like a handjob, and MMA is like a hot sweaty orgy with 5 chicks. I could never say no to a handjob, but which would you rather have?

He said that in an interview with (aftonbladet) a swedish newspaper and it was on other news last night. Yah, it's just an old saying.

By the way how are you doing now? I've seen you checking out Saddoboxing once in a while, Stay strong and say hi to Jasper.

It was a very close fight. I recorded it and watched it four times. IMO Jones took the first round and the last two. The first was close, but Gustafsson was definitely wilting the last two rounds. I think that and Jones' aggression was what pushed it in his favor. If you recall, the majority of the time it was Jones who was pressing forward and initiating the contact.
