That doesn't suprise me...He's a fighter and, when he felt the other guy's power, it scared him. he thinks that, if he isn't unnerved, he can reverse the result.
Cleverly has alot of things to work out off that demolition. As bad as the power was, fact is he was out thought and out boxed as well. He needs to let sleeping dogs lay right where they are with Kovalev
I found it an odd fight. Cleverly never had to take it but had the cajones to do so yet it almost looked like he accepted the outcome the first time he ate a good shot. Maybe he got into boxing for the wrong reasons to begin with. Perhaps Joe Cal was his boyhood hero and he really never wanted to box. Early successes made him carry on and maybe the cash but deep down inside he'd rather be doing something else.
Not to take away anything from Kovalev cause if you ask me he's the real deal and had much better footwork then I ever imagined along with some cute feints but again Clev fought him like he wanted to show the fans that he could take his shots. Now he feels bad and wants a rematch again for the fans perhaps. Pleasing the fans should not be the fundamental reason for being a fighter.
He's got skills but fights stupid. If he sincerely wants to give it a serious second go then imo he needs to change up his corner and learn to deal with words like "no" and "you fuck up" used in the same sentence.
the other night on sky he was talking about going to cruiserweight

Again one loss and your on the scrap hep, many fighters lose and come back boxing fans are
a funny lot, many great fighters have been beaten.
Have a look at many Champions that have been beaten, they regroup and come back remember
one loss does not mean the end of a career.!!!!![]()
i totally agree with you, i dont think theres any issue with getting beat, marquez looses to mayweather and comes back better
i suppose cleverly was dismantled tho, completely outclassed, he wasnt in the fight at any point
people say he had a good second round or whatever it was, maybe he did do better in one of the rounds but he still didnt come close to winning a round
either cleverly had an off day, he just falls short of top class or Kolarev is something special

Many times its what makes a great champion. I'm on the same side you are and am an outspoken shithead on this coddled throw away world. Its one thing to see the difference in the quality of an office chair today compared to one from past eras that still function and with steel based wheels. Its quite another to form a sport around such a fickle capitalistic principle.
Its the era of being careful and if you dare risk that by showing your balls like Nathan did and lose you become a plastic 21st century office chair. It sickens me. I'm merely commenting on the fight with the benefit of hindsight and multiple viewings. He looked defeated throughout and you could have grabbed somebody from the audience to give advice in his corner. Imo if he wants to make a serious comeback then he has to make some serious decisions that may not taste good.
