Oscar offers Cotto 10 mil minimum for Alvarez fight

Agree Cotto has no business above 154 really, although he'd have a chance against Quillin or Martinez today imo. If this offer is concrete I have a hard time seeing why he wouldn't fight Alvarez, and I'm really hoping that happens now. It's a great matchup.

I give him a slight chance against Martinez if Sergio is really as broken down as he's looked recently. I give him no chance against Quillin. To big. To strong. To young.

Agree on all counts. Quillin is a natural MW, at 6'-1" and a 73" reach.... a whopping 6" more than Cotto. He's also younger, fresher, and packs a big wallop. Cotto on the other hand has worked his way up from 140.... and most believe 147 was his most natural weight. What he's achieved at 154 is amazing, given his small frame. But Quillin? No way.

I know it's in your nature to defend Cotto. That's fine. But come on. You know damn well the Alvarez fight is the only fight he should be looking at. There something there in fighting Martinez. But theres more pros in fighting Alvarez. It's a bigger fight. It's the easiest one to make. And more importantly it pays him substantially more. I don't know what he he'll make for fighting Martinez. But I doubt he clears 5 million. If even that. Against Alvarez he gets a lottery winning 10 million plus. What is there to think about?

Well, Cotto's easy to defend. Future HOF'er, sterling resume, never ducked anybody, class act in and out of the ring. Easier to defend him than some coddled cheater. But anyway.... yeah, both would be big fights. But Cotto's in the driver's seat. He's got the career. He's got the resume. He's got nothing left to prove. It all depends on what he's looking for. Maybe it's legacy. In which case the more logical choice would be Martinez. One future HOF'er versus another. Both class acts. Both with sterling resumes. Cotto fighting yet another big man. Canelo would be big too, because of his following. There'd probably be more money involved, too. But it's all in what Cotto wants. Does he need the extra million? Probably not. There's also the matter of how each man has left the most recent imprint in boxing. Cotto's fresh off an impressive, though not surprising win steamroller win over Delvin Rodriguez. Canelo looked worse against Mayweather than Cotto ever did. So Canelo's stock went somewhat down, while Cotto's went somewhat up. But whatever.... both would be big fights.
