Boxing News | Interview: James Toney

Toney should have his license taken away immediately. The change in his speech from when he was a middleweight is horrific.

He sounds really bad, and whats worse seems to honestly still believe what he says I don't know anything about standard medical procedures, is there a maximum amount of brain atrophy one can have while getting licenced? He will be an absolute vegetable by old age, must still need the money.

Toney weighs in at 217lb and his opponent may be the weakest of the bunch and only 6.2" so as good a start as he could of hoped for in the comp.

That draw's not rigged much. Jesus...

It's only £32,000 to the winner. If Toney wins he'll probably land himself a bigger money fight against a UK prospect ()

As rigged as the draw may be they would all still have to face each other to get to the final.

Toney still has to start faster than usual and at his age it will be difficult. Imagine Hopkins in one of these. Hed lose to a 6 fight novice on workrate.

Depends on whether the judges will apreciate the fact that Toney is making his opponent miss, even though his opponent will probably throw more.

In my eyes its not a formality Toney wins his fight and progresses because of the workrate. Iv got a feeling he may realise this too late.

I don't give Toney a hope in hells of winning. They've done their best to get 6 rounds instead of 3 for their dough though.

Why are you being so pissy about it?

Its fucking prizefighter! Consists of journeymen and has beens, its just fun.

No fighter who takes his career seriously or that has any better offers would risk losing.

It is a big risk because you know full well even someone like Bernard Hopkins would lose a 3 rounder against a young novice/journeyman because the fights are fast paced and are based on work rate.

So hang on, are all the fights going to be US vs UK Say all the winners in first round are from one or the other, would they still not face their countrymen?

Man oh man. Toneys opponent is 6-1 with one 4 rounder in the last 5 years.. He was stopped in 2 by a guy who was 6-28 before that. Tom Little is 3-1 with his last fight being a TKO loss in prizefighter last year. As if the Americans weren't bad enough in this, didn't realize just how dreadful the lineup is. Audley Harrisson would be a massive favourite to win as a late replacement

Him and Sprott are favs. I backed Toney at 7/1 when line 1st went up. Id make him fav now being in top half of the draw. He should make the final.
