I do not like taking tablets for the same reason.

Get a very good mattress, that should help.

yeah getting sleep aids isnt a good idea i dont think, probably make the situation worse in the long run

like when you have a stint of drinking at christmas or something and the drink helps you sleep for a week or so and then as soon as you stop the first few nights its harder to gtet off

and we just got a new mattress for about £600, it is miles comfier

its hard to say whether it has helped or not tho

Routine is the most important thing. Make sure you exercise in the day, don't eat at night, don't drink 4 hours before sleeping, maybe some relaxing music to calm you down (Nyman, not The Stooges). Sometimes it works, sometimes it does bugger all.

For me falling asleep is the most important part of the day. Everything that I do leads to that moment. I don't know how it is for other people, but do know that finishing work late in the evening was what initially caused me problems several years ago. I would advise against ever doing that. You finish work at 11pm and by the time you are winding down, you have the fear that the sun is up in a couple of hours and that you cannot function. Never work in such a way. Never be flexible, it isn't normal.

The medication argument is one that I am open minded about. Sleep is probably the most important thing in life and you need it. If you are not falling asleep and it is hurting your life, then take the medicine. It should always be an option. Even now, I make sure that there is medicine on hand for those nights when I don't sleep. The only drawback to medication IMO is overmedicating which can affect you the next day. You can control that by taking cutting the pill and being practical.

Natural medications IMO are quite useless as are folk stories about chamomile tea. It just makes you need the toilet which isn't good for sleep. My philosophy is live more healthily and if you sleep then good, but if not, then use back ups.
