Fighting Martinez and possibly picking up yet another championship at a higher weight..... AND..... doing it against a surefire future HOF'er...... does more for Cotto's legacy than fighting an overhyped, ginger-haired boy who got schooled against the only elite fighter he's ever faced.
Now.... I know your limited mind only sees the $$$ involved. But Cotto probably decided that a few more million isn't the overriding factor at this stage. He's been one of the smart ones who's made the proper investments and has taken care of his family's future. So he decides to go for the legacy.
You should understand that concept. It's the same one used by De La Hoya when he took the fight with the smaller Pacquiao, thinking he was easy pickings because of his size..... only to have the strategy sadly backfire on him and make him quit on his stool, dejected at having failed in his legacy quest.
So.... admirable though it might be that you care so much about Cotto's potential earnings against Canelo..... you'll just to remain butt-hurt in that Cotto has chosen another path instead. Canelo will just to face younger fighters on the rise, just like him..... and take his chances at not being exposed.
This is a bold step for Cotto, he is taking on the disputed middleweight champion of the world, Sergio may not be as dangerous as he was a few years ago, but Cotto could have taken the money and fought Saul. I think Miguel does not bow down to any particular promoter.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
After he loses to Sergio, he has Saul as his back up.![]()
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
Cotto is a good fighter and it takes balls to go against the middleweight champ even if he is on the slide. Think this will get him atg tag and hof induction i am still on the fence on if he will are not right now. His whole career he was never able to get a ring champ or be the man at the weight this might be it. He never got to fight Hatton at lww, lost to Margarito at ww and was beat by Mayweather and trout at lmw. So this will be his chance to be the man at the weight and could be his big break wait and see i guess. Martinez is not the most fundamental sound fighter and relies on his reflexes and power to win fights not sure if the reflexes are still there and his legs are falling apart. Also there is a angry face next to this not sure how i put that there might of hit a button or something.
